Perfection does not exist. It is far better to take action, no matter how small, to begin seeing real change π by Tim Han from Success Insider
Have you ever sat idly, spinning through immaculate Instagram feeds, or watched successful CEOs on YouTube, and found yourself drooping under the oppressive weight of perfection? Testaments to unattainable perfection are plastered all around us. Yet, the unvarnished truth, a secret many are reluctant to believe is β Perfection? It's a myth! Yes, my dear friends, an unachievable mirage and an implausible goal.
While this might sound like a splash of cold water, let me assure you, itβs meant to be a liberating revelation. What if I told you, your pursuit of perfection could, in essence, be chaining you down?
Consider this vivid moment from my early days. It was a bright, radiant morning where I was racking my brains, trying to draft the perfect business plan for my then-nascent dream, the Success Insider. Gritting my teeth, I relentlessly doodled, deleted, and redrafted, trying to attain an unattainable perfection. In my quest for perfection, progress eluded me.
I was so enveloped in perfecting the blueprint that I overlooked one fundamental principle. Action. It took me a while to grasp that no amount of perfect drafting would outweigh the benefits of taking that first imperfect step.
Now, years later, the creator of the LMA course, I often reflect back on that day. Itβs a stark reminder of how my fervor for perfection was nothing but a faΓ§ade, veiling me from taking valuable actions.
Perfection is one of the biggest obstacles afoot on the road to success. It keeps us in a draconian grip, a paralyzing fear of making mistakes. But remember β every successful person you admire has one thing in common: they dared to act, dared to stumble, dared to learn, and dared to grow.
Think about Thomas Edison. He made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail 1,000 times, he famously replied, βI didnβt fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.β Now, isnβt that thought ever so liberating? Embrace action, rejoice mistakes as stepping stones, and the path to success suddenly appears less daunting.
Perfection can lead to procrastination and impose a sense of continuous dissatisfaction upon our endeavors. We chase the cloak-and-dagger persona of perfection when, instead, we could be using all our energies, vigour, and potential in taking progressive actions.
So, dear friend, let me ask you this: How many times have you withheld an idea, a dream, or even a simple blog post under the guise of perfection? How many times have you constrained your boundless potential for the fear of being less than perfect?
Shed this inhibiting load of perfectionism. Dare to take that first step, however small, towards your dreams. Encourage yourself to be a little more Edison, a little less perfect. Embrace ‘imperfect action' over ‘perfect inaction'.
Take a moment now to consider what dreams you've held back. Ask yourself, “What small, ‘imperfect' action can I take today to start realizing my dream?” Maybe it's drafting a business proposal, signing up for a new class, or reaching out to an old contact. However small it may seem, this one step could be the key to unlocking monumental growth and unparalleled learning.
I once read that perfection is the enemy of good, and through my experiences, I couldn't agree more. It wasnβt perfection, but the commitment to action that built the Success Insider. It was not seeking a faultless run, but the audacity to make mistakes and learn that led to the creation of the LMA course.
Perfection does not exist, friends. Allow yourself the freedom to err, to learn and to grow. After all, our actions, however tiny, blossoms into progress, and as we often discussed within the Success Insider community β progress beats perfection, every single time.
each day as one step forward, embrace every mistake as a valuable lesson, and don't let the illusion of perfection prevent you from taking action. Today, I urge you to replace perfection with action and watch as your dreams and goals begin to materialize. So tell me, what ‘imperfect' action will you take today?
