Hey Insider, this is a very short video today as I’m still in Hong Kong. I want to quickly share with you something that I found quite funny and so true.

 

We came here to find that there seems to be an Instagram hotspot in Hong Kong. There are so many Instagrams that it’s crazy, right?

We were looking for this particular building, the one you can see behind me on the video, and we couldn't find it.

 

Now why do you think that was? I can tell you that it wasn’t because we can’t read a map, and we didn’t suddenly lose our eyesight or our sense of direction. I’ve already given you a clue, I’m sure you know.

 

It was because when we physically got to Hong Kong, we had a vision in our minds of what this building should look like, based on what we saw on Instagram!

 

The people who had posted pictures of it online made it look almost unreal, but in reality it looks nothing like that. It is just a normal, plain building.

 

The great message I took away from that is that you should never compare you life to somebody else’s online content. They are only showing a glimpse of their life, not the whole thing, so of course they look unreal and perfect.

 

If you believe the influencers and life coaches you follow online have perfect lives, they haven’t. If you’re trying to be like them and optimise your life to be just like theirs, you are aspiring to live in a mythical land.

 

Remember nobody’s perfect! So stop comparing your life to somebody else’s online, controlled content, which has been carefully edited to show highlights.

 

The only thing you should ever do is wake up each morning and focus on you. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself and the best you can be. Because that's the only thing that truly matters for each of us.

Be honest, Insider, how many times in your life have you said yes to someone when you actually want to say no? You don’t want to hurt or annoy them so you say yes but you mean the opposite.

 

Well, let me admit…for me it is too many times. People pleasing can cost us a fortune—you don't need me to tell you that because you already know it. And yet we continue to do it!

 

It’s understandable that you want to please people, that is only natural, but there comes a point when it is harming your life and income and can even harm the people you are trying to please. In fact it often harms them, which is the last thing we want.

 

Do you feel like me as regards people pleasing? We want to help people and not upset them, so we say yes when we mean no, and it costs them as well as us because we end up letting them down.

 

There are so many people with this same problem, but don’t worry, what I’m going to share with you today will help you cut down and finally stop doing this over and over again.

 

In the video, I’m going to show you the three steps that I followed to finally get rid of this sabotaging behavioural pattern. because it cost me so much in my life that I knew I had to do something about it.

Just imagine this scene for a moment, Insider. I was once speaking in front of fifty people at a private networking event.

 

Out of the blue, a woman got up with a really angry face and shouted really negative statements at me! I just stood there frozen until she walked out of the room and slammed the door shut!

 

The whole audience looked at me as if to say: “what the hell just happened?” And I was still standing there shocked and red in the face.

 

I went home that night and felt so depressed. I told myself that I had to learn how to win the audience over, because that's where I struggled the most.

 

Especially with my introverted background—I never really understood how to create a likeable speaker character.

 

It wasn't until I learned about the five steps I'm going to share with you today, that I began to get the audience on my side from the first moment. And most importantly, hook their attention.

 

Because the second you do this, you'll notice the audience becomes so much more receptive towards your message.

 

So be sure to pay close attention to every single one of these steps, as they are designed to work in unison. You can’t just do one, you have to use them together.

Most successful people are early risers, it is a well-known fact. That's why the moment you turn yourself into a morning person is the moment you begin to get an unfair advantage over

everyone else.

The question is—how can you make that consistent and into a daily habit?

There are three mindset secrets which allow you to do just that, which I will share with you today, Insider. So be sure to pay close attention.

Are you one of those people who struggles to get up early, no matter what you do? Sometimes you can get out of bed when your alarm rings, but most times you can’t.

One thing I advise you to do before I go into the three tips, is to get good quality sleep for seven or eight hours a night. There are various ways you can track the quality of your sleep—apps and tools you can use to do so which I’ll go into in the video.

The tips I will share with you today, Insider, will start with looking at your language and identity.

What are you telling yourself every day? What language do you use? How do you see yourself and what is your core identity? These are the places to start when you want to turn yourself into a morning person.

As you know, I had a very shady past in terms of smoking and taking a lot of drugs, because I hung around with wrong people. But this one tip turned me right around and it was all connected to my language and identity.

How emotional do you feel about your life? I don’t mean to get personal but emotions are what drive us, they are vital to motivation.

If you can connect your emotions to your actions in the ways I will show you in my video, it will move you a long way towards your goal of becoming a morning person.

And the last step is linked to who you have around you—do you motivate yourself and carry on alone moving towards your goals? Or do you surround yourself with all sorts of people?

In the third tip today I’ll tell you who the best types of people to work with are, and how they can help you.

Do you ever wonder what your purpose here on Earth is? Are you sometimes—or often—not sure about the way you are living your life? And does it feel a bit out of balance or unclear?

Don’t worry, you aren’t on your own in that. Most people don’t think about their purpose in life, they just carry on doing the same things as they’ve always done, while wondering if there is more to life.

 

I believe it’s vital to think about what your purpose is though! So you can live your life with intention and meaning, while also helping others (that is important to my work and to the world!)

 

So today, Insiders, I want to help you craft a personal mission statement for your life.

 

I am going to show you a 5 step plan so you can work out what is the core and central message you want to send out to the world. How do you want to live your life so you feel your most fulfilled, effective and valuable?

 

Paying it forward is a major purpose in my life and I believe we can all improve the world if we try and help others.

Today, Insider, I want to answer a question which constantly pops up everywhere.

 

I've been asked this question by so many of you over on Instagram, Facebook, email—you name it, I see the question on it.

 

Especially when I'm speaking on stages all around the world! I get a lot of people putting their hands up and asking, ‘what's the best life advice you've ever received?’

 

The best life advice I've got from all of the successful people I've been lucky enough to hang around with is definitely this one thing which I’m going to share with you in my video today.

 

But first a bit of background to what was happening in my life when I received this one great piece of advice.

 

About four to five years ago, I was working a nine-to-five job. During that period I had a lot of side businesses and so forth but it was getting that point where I wanted to really start sharing my message online.

 

But as I was an introvert with social anxiety, I wondered how would I find the confidence to do that? My biggest fear was going on camera to talk about my opinions.

 

I asked my boss at the time, and he gave me the invaluable advice that I still use today and never forgot.

 

When I asked my boss this important question, first he said: “how would you describe me Tim?”

 

I said, “you're quite crazy, I've never actually met somebody like you. Because just the other day you came into the office and said that you randomly thought of an idea while in the shower. And instead of thinking about it, you'd already bought me the flight tickets and said I'll be flying over to Philippines to spend time with farmers and we'll be launching this big chocolate project soon.”

 

When I told him what I thought of him, I was amazed by what his reply to me was, and I’ve never forgotten it.

The type of routine and habits you follow can have a great impact on your life, so tip number one will make this clearer for you.

 

And are you a starter or a finisher with your projects? Do you have a lot of projects going on, or do you focus on doing one at a time? My advice on this point will make a difference to your productivity.

 

Do you look forward to ‘one day’ when you will have achieved all you set out to do and because of this, you will be super happy and fulfilled? Pay attention to what I say about feelings because it is important to get into the right mindset.
