People have been asking me how have we been able to do it here at Success Insider—whenever I'm speaking on stages, they ask, ‘Tim, how have you got clients who have been with you from day one? Have you got a raving consumer fanbase? Because I often see them talk about your products and programs for free online on Facebook.’


Well, Insider, it's not some form of luck or trickery or manipulation—far from it!


I’m sure you know that the success of your business depends on how you treat your customers—that is obvious—but what is the secret of treating them exactly right so they come back again and again?

How about the product or service you actually deliver to your customers? Is it better to give them exactly what they want? Or to keep them wanting more? Or to give them more than they asked for?

Why did you choose the business you chose? Was it just something you thought looked good, or was it a burning passion of yours?


Do you think your customers feel like independent consumers or do they feel like part of a community or group?

I remember my speaking mentor once pulled me to one side to tell me something, and what he said was:

 

“Tim, I want you to realize that right now, you're just sharing so much logic and so much knowledge but you're not striking people’s emotions. Remember, people don't remember what you say but they do remember how you made them feel. That's why you’ve got to tell more great stories.”

 

The problem was at the time, I was terrible at telling stories—especially in English. As you know, it's not my first language.

 

Insider, do you ever ask yourself these questions about sharing a story with your audience?

 

What should you do to grab their attention and make sure they stay with you from the beginning to the end of your story?

 

How many details should you put into your story? Is it a question of the more the better? Or maybe you don’t need to share as many as you think?

 

Once you’ve got the audience into your story to begin with, how do you keep them captivated as it continues?

 

What do you want your audience to learn from your story? Do you want to give them a lot of lessons to take away and practice? Or just a couple of important ones?

Which method should you use to share your story? Maybe you could write a blog on your website? Or make a video? Or send out a newsletter that your subscribers can read offline?

 

I was awful at telling stories, and it wasn't until I discovered the five steps I'm going to share with you today, that I finally began to captivate the attention of my audience. It made such a big difference in regards to communication and influence—especially the final point. That is something I still do to this day!

This is an area of my life I struggle with so much. You may know my background is that I've been shy and introverted for as long as I can remember. Ever since school days because of the bullying that I experienced.

A lot of things I've learned today from traveling around the world and speaking on global stages, and other things I've learned from mentors, so I've gone through a transformation.

These five mistakes I was making, in terms of first impressions, were holding me back for many, many years. That's why I want you to pay close attention because this will be the big leverage you need to get yourself up to that next level.

Do you feel like you often make a bad first impression on people you meet? They don’t seem interested in you, they don’t listen to what you say, maybe they don’t meet your eyes or smile at you?

These experiences are mainly connected to you, Insider. Usually people reflect what they are seeing in you, and what they do is a mirror of what you are doing.

Do you tend to get stuck in your head thinking what to say next, or thinking about what happened yesterday?

Do you take trouble with how you present yourself?

Are you trying too hard to make a good impression and maybe clinging onto anyone you interact with?

Do you think talking a lot will inspire the person in front of you?

Are you feeling unconfident about meeting new people and it shows in your body language?

Have you ever wondered why there are some days where you feel like you’re preventing yourself from getting what you really want? And if you have an unhelpful mindset and you’re telling yourself negative things or undermining yourself, this won’t help you get what you want.

 

Also if you’re not sure which part of you is in control of your life and you’re letting your emotions control you, or you can’t stop procrastinating, this will have a negative effect on your success.

 

Luckily, there are three methods you can use to change these behaviours so you can get out of your own way in getting what you want in life. I will show you these strategies in the video I share today.

Do you ever feel like you are hamster on a wheel, going round and round doing the same things but not getting anywhere? You are trying so hard but not achieving the results you want. Life seems to be the same all the time with not much change.

The reason for this depends on the level of your self awareness—how well do you know yourself? Can look at yourself objectively?

If you are at a low level, you will see life differently to someone with a high level, and you won’t understand yourself so well. You may not see weaknesses which are holding you back, or strengths which you could use to move forward.

Your level of self awareness changes as you go through life, so we aren’t even at the same stage as other people the same age! It’s not the same for everyone.

We all start out in life in a different situation, thinking, “oh, life is like this.” Then a few years later, we change our view to think it’s like something else, then a few years after that, we think life is like something completely different.

All these revelations happen because you evolve to different levels of development as you get older. This can take many years, or a short time, depending on what opportunities or problems you meet, and what guidance you find.

So if you feel like you are stuck, it’s important to raise your level of self-awareness to improve what you know about yourself in order to move towards getting what you want.

But don’t think you have to wait until a revelation hits you in the middle of the night, or something. You can take action right now. I want to help you speed up this process as much as possible, so you can understand yourself more easily and make better choices starting right now.

There are practices you can do to raise your level, which is what I will show you in my blog today.

These are three main things I’ve been doing since the new year and they have really helped me. They have taken courage but if I can do them, I’m sure you can and they are well worth the effort.

Did you know that, typically, 92% of people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by the end of January? Everyone sets out into the new year full of good intentions, but a large percentage of us don’t continue with them.

Research by the University of Scraton has shown this to be true—it’s a big number isn’t it?

The main reason most people don’t continue with their resolutions is that they have a little negative voice in their mind, which says things like ‘you’re too shy,’ or ‘you’re not good enough,’ or ‘you need to take more action.’ It is very common for people to experience this.

Are you one of the 92% who have stalled on their resolutions? Do you have the little voice in your head which puts you down? Would you like to know how to combat these uncomfortable feelings and continue making your resolutions come true?

There is help at hand because there are scientifically researched methods you can use to get past the feeling of being unconfident, and so follow your dreams.

These three tips work because I have used them to transform myself from someone who had very little confidence, to someone who knows his own strengths and challenges. I don’t let negative little voices affect me now.
